The Senate Office of Floor Analyses seeks a hard-working and independently motivated employee for the position of Consultant.
Under the direction of the Staff Director, the Consultant position with the Senate Office of Floor Analyses performs duties related to these main functions of the office: 1) tracking legislation moving through the legislative process and identifying bills heading towards the Senate floor for every Senate floor session; 2) notifying committee staff and coordinating receipt of floor analyses as needed; 3) proofing and reviewing floor analyses; and 4) writing floor analyses for resolutions that are not assigned to policy committees. The consultant will also supervise the preparation of our annual end-of-session Digest of Significant Legislation. The consultant processes the Governor’s Appointments packet for Senate floor sessions.
Desired qualifications include knowledge of the legislative process and floor procedures, strong writing and research skills, excellent editorial skills, policy analysis skills, bill tracking, ability to take initiative and work independently as well as collaboratively, and the ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure. Candidates must have the ability to independently manage a substantial workload under strict deadlines (requiring working nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary). This position requires working closely with all Senate committee staff, Senate and Assembly Desk staff, Members’ offices, Senate Reprographics, Senate Appointments, and the Legislative Data Center. In addition, the ability to address questions, comments, and concerns from the public is equally important.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
Candidates must have a background and familiarity with policy and analysis. Candidates must also have experience and knowledge of the legislative and budget committee process, ability to maintain a high level of analytical proficiency, and/or the ability to develop strong programmatic expertise. The ability to foster positive working relationships in a team environment is essential.

LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:
This position is located in Sacramento, CA.
Salary starts at $6,516 per month.
Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education.
