Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Staff and the District Director, the District Representative acts as a liaison and works with constituents, District organizations, local governments and state agencies on behalf of the Senator. Applicants must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work well with others.
The District Representative will regularly engage with constituents by phone and written communication, regularly drafting and communicating responses to constituent correspondence and requests, and performing constituent services and casework.
The District Representative will be responsible for vetting District issues, request for letters of support, resolutions, certificates, and coordinating with the District Director on the implementation of agreed-upon action. The District Representative will monitor and engage with local governments, local agencies or organization on the Senator’s behalf in their assigned area.
The District Representative must maintain knowledge of the Senator’s legislation and issue priorities and maintain knowledge of the District and its diverse communities. Under the supervision of the District Director, the District Representative briefs the Chief of Staff and Senator in preparation for in-person and online District meetings with constituents, local government officials, labor, business, and other organizations. This may include public speaking or certificate presentations.
The District Representative must stay on top of District issues, by engaging in community outreach, continuously following local news sources and tracking constituent input.
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, analytical skills, and knowledge of the legislative process. The ideal candidate is creative; detail orientated, and able to handle multiple projects and work well, individually and collaboratively, with a variety of people. Candidates must also be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.
Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, in addition to proficiency with Microsoft Office and PC's. A current driver’s license and automobile liability insurance are mandatory. Knowledge of legislative culture and process is preferred. A strong commitment to providing excellent service to constituents is necessary.

LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:
This position is located in Inglewood, CA.
Salary starts at $4,108 per month plus benefits.
Final compensation is commensurate with experience and education.
